The Best Luxury Destinations in the Middle East for 2026
By Alex Marlowe · May 15, 2026 · 12 min read
The Middle East luxury map has expanded materially since 2021. Beyond Dubai (still the universal hub) the region now offers a coherent circuit: Oman's khors and mountains for the wilderness traveller, AlUla and Diriyah for the cultural opening, Wadi Rum's Bedouin-luxury camps for the under-the-stars night, and Bodrum for the under-priced Aegean alternative. Here is where each destination earns the trip — and when to avoid the rest.
The strongest single-country circuits
- Oman (7–10 days): Muscat → Jebel Akhdar mountains → Musandam khor. The most complete single-country luxury circuit in the region — coast, mountains, fjords, no political volatility.
- Saudi Arabia (5–7 days): AlUla (Banyan Tree, Habitas, Hegra) plus Diriyah (Bujairi Terrace). The standout new opening of the decade.
- Jordan (4–6 days): Petra plus Wadi Rum (Memories Aicha Luxury Camp, Magic Camp). Strongest dark-sky and ancient-site pairing in the region.
- Turkey (5–10 days): Istanbul plus Bodrum or Cappadocia. The under-priced Aegean alternative with serious depth in food and design.
Oman vs UAE — which to book first
| Oman | UAE (Dubai/Abu Dhabi) | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Wilderness, mountains, no-crowd luxury | City scale, dining, easy connections |
| Pace | Slow — small camps and lodges | High-energy — big hotels and big restaurants |
| Hotel benchmark | Six Senses Zighy Bay, Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar | Bvlgari Resort Dubai, Atlantis The Royal, Emirates Palace |
| Trip length | 7–10 nights to do it properly | 3–5 nights is enough |
| Ideal first visit | Repeat Middle East traveller | First Middle East trip |
AlUla — the standout 2026 destination
AlUla now has direct flights from Dubai, Riyadh and Paris, three credible luxury properties (Banyan Tree, Habitas, the upcoming Sharaan by Jean Nouvel) and the strongest dark-sky programme in the region. Pair three nights AlUla with two nights Diriyah in Riyadh for a self-contained Saudi opening that didn't exist two years ago.
Where to fly in
- Universal hub: Dubai (DXB) — connects everything in the region.
- Oman: Muscat (MCT) direct from London, Frankfurt, Zurich.
- Saudi: Riyadh (RUH) or AlUla (ULH) direct from Dubai and Paris.
- Jordan: Amman (AMM) direct from major European hubs.
