Musandam Peninsula's secluded fjord-side resort — 82 stone-built villas with private pools, paraglide arrival option from the cliff above, and the strongest Six Senses spa programme in the region.

What works

  • Every villa has a private pool
  • Paraglide-on arrival is the genre's most photographed entry
  • 90 minutes from DXB by Land Rover

Watch-outs

  • Land Rover switchback road not for car-sick travellers
  • Limited off-resort exploration — Musandam is largely closed military zone

Six Senses Zighy Bay sits on the eastern side of the Musandam Peninsula — the Omani exclave that separates the United Arab Emirates from the Strait of Hormuz — in a horseshoe bay backed by the 300-metre Hajar Mountains cliff. The arrival logistics are the property's signature: the 90-minute Land Rover transfer from DXB runs the final 45 minutes along a switchback dirt road carved into the cliff face above the bay, with the option to paraglide tandem from the cliff top to the resort beach on stays of three nights or more (weather-permitting, included). The resort beach is the only public access point — there is no through-road, no village, and no neighbouring property.

The 82 keys are all freestanding stone-built villas designed to evoke a traditional Omani hilltop village — exposed Hajar stone walls, palm-frond ceilings, and lime-plaster interior finishes. Every villa includes a private 8-metre pool, a walled garden, and an outdoor majlis seating area. The Pool Villa category at 150 square metres is the entry; the Retreats on the upper hillside are three-bedroom layouts with infinity pools facing the bay. The lighting palette is intentionally restrained — Musandam is a Dark Sky reserve, and the resort runs no above-canopy lighting after 22:00, which makes the Milky Way visible from every villa terrace.

Spice Market is the all-day Asian-led restaurant on the beach; Sense on the Edge is the cliff-top fine-dining pavilion accessed via a 12-minute resort transfer up the cliff road (sunset cocktails are the booking to chase). The wine cellar is built into a cave excavated from the cliff and runs the strongest Six Senses wine programme outside the Bhutan property. The Six Senses Spa runs 2,000 square metres across two beach-side buildings with the brand's standard nine-treatment programme plus a dedicated Watsu pool — the only Watsu programme in the Six Senses Middle East/Africa portfolio.

Six Senses joined IHG in 2019; IHG One Rewards points redemptions are variable-priced (no fixed chart) and typically land at 100,000 to 140,000 points per night for the entry Pool Villa, which is inconsistent value versus cash. Cash booking via the property direct or Virtuoso is the standard route; the latter adds daily breakfast for two (already included), a $100 property credit, and a confirmable 16:00 late check-out. The structural low season is June through August with daily temperatures above 42°C and a closed beach club; the cool-and-dry October through April peak runs 70 percent above the shoulder, with Christmas to New Year week priced 70 percent above the standard peak.

Frequently asked

How does the paraglide-on arrival work?

Tandem paragliding from the 300-metre cliff above Zighy Bay, included on bookings of three nights or more and weather-permitting. Briefing and harness fitting at the cliff top; flight is roughly 8 minutes from launch to the resort beach. Marshmallow-soft sand landing.

Can I do day trips from the property?

Limited — Musandam is largely a closed Omani military zone with restricted onward road access. The hotel runs dhow charters to the surrounding fjords (the 'Norway of Arabia') for half-day and full-day trips; this is the primary off-resort activity.

Six Senses Zighy Bay or Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar?

Anantara for the mountain location at 2,000 m altitude with cooler temperatures and the easier 2-hour Muscat drive. Six Senses for the beach setting, the paraglide arrival, and the Dubai proximity. Different propositions; both worth booking on separate trips.
