Bill Bensley-designed riverside hideaway in Dusit — 39 keys including 10 pool villas, an in-house Muay Thai gym, and the only luxury hotel boat shuttle on the Chao Phraya.
What works
- Ten private pool villas — rare for a Bangkok city hotel
- Hotel river boat shuttle to Sathorn (25 min)
- Bill Bensley interiors throughout
Watch-outs
- Dusit location is non-central by Bangkok standards
- No on-site Michelin-recognised dining
The Siam sits on a 3-rai riverside plot in Dusit, the royal-administrative district 12 minutes upstream from the central Chao Phraya tourist run. The address is deliberately non-central by Bangkok luxury-hotel standards — there is no BTS station within walking distance, no shopping mall on the doorstep, and Sukhumvit is a 35-minute taxi in normal traffic. The property's response is the hotel river boat, which departs the in-house pier every 30 minutes for a 25-minute downstream run to ICONSIAM, Sathorn pier (BTS Saphan Taksin interchange), and the Asiatique riverside complex. The boat is the only viable transit option in rush hour and is free for guests.
Bill Bensley designed the property end-to-end from the 2012 opening — 39 keys across a single colonial-Art Deco building plus ten freestanding pool villas in a walled rear garden. The Bensley palette runs in cream, jade green, and old-teak, with antique furnishings sourced from Krishna Stranger's Bangkok collection. Every room (the smallest at 80 square metres) reads as a junior suite by Bangkok standards; the ten pool villas each include a 6-metre private pool, a walled garden, and a separate butler entrance from the rear lane. The Bensley design is the property's signature and the reason returning guests rebook.
Chon Thai is the main restaurant — Thai cuisine in a relocated traditional teak house, with strong central and southern Thai regional menus. The hotel's bar programme runs from the riverside Deco bar from 17:00. The Sivara Spa runs the standard Thai treatment menu plus the Eastern Bodyworks programme. The Muay Thai gym is the genuine differentiator: a full in-house ring with a resident trainer, free group classes morning and late afternoon, and bookable one-on-one sessions for all levels including complete beginners — the only luxury Bangkok hotel with a dedicated Muay Thai programme rather than a guest pass to an off-site gym.
The Siam has no chain loyalty programme; bookings via Virtuoso or Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts add daily breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, and confirmable pool-villa upgrade priority. The structural low season is the south-west monsoon from April to October (afternoon rain, cooler riverside breeze); the cool-and-dry December to February peak runs 60 percent above the monsoon shoulder. Christmas to New Year week is priced 50 percent above the standard peak with a 30-day cancellation window. Request a Riverview Suite on the second floor for the unobstructed Chao Phraya sightline; pool villas 3 through 7 sit closest to the river.
