Lanserhof's North Sea island sibling to Tegernsee — Ingenhoven-designed thatched longhouse on Sylt, the same Mayr-method medical depth as the Bavarian flagship plus a 1,000 sqm thalassotherapy spa using filtered North Sea water.

Lanserhof Sylt opened on the northern German island of Sylt in August 2022, the third Lanserhof location after Lans (Tyrol, 1984) and Tegernsee (Bavaria, 2014) and the brand's largest single building at 20,000 square metres. Ingenhoven Architects designed it as a single thatched longhouse — the 9,000-square-metre Reed roof is the largest in Europe and the defining architectural feature, sourced from Polish reed beds and laid in traditional Friesian technique. The site sits at the northern tip of the island near List, adjacent to a UNESCO-protected dune landscape; villa-style suites face the Wadden Sea to the east or the dunes to the west.

The medical programme replicates Tegernsee at the same diagnostic depth — full blood panel on arrival, daily doctor consultations, the Mayr-method fasting protocol modified per case, and overnight sleep diagnostics in the second week. The 1,000-square-metre thalassotherapy spa is the site-specific addition: filtered North Sea seawater used in pool, treatment, and inhalation rooms, with a programme calibrated to the iodine and trace-element profile of the local water. Seven-night minimum stays apply year-round; the brand's longstanding rule that programmes are doctor-led rather than guest-selected is enforced — you will not be choosing your own treatments here.

What works

  • Architecturally the most complete wellness building in Europe (Ingenhoven longhouse, 2022)
  • Same Mayr-method diagnostic depth as Tegernsee — full lab work and doctor-led programmes
  • 1,000 sqm thalassotherapy spa with filtered North Sea seawater is unique in the group

Watch-outs

  • Sylt itself is a 4–5 hour overland journey from Hamburg via the Hindenburgdamm causeway
  • Higher peak-season pricing than Tegernsee due to limited room count

Frequently asked

Lanserhof Sylt or Lanserhof Tegernsee?

Sylt for the coast, the architecture, and the thalasso programme; Tegernsee for the mountain setting, the slightly larger doctor team, and easier overland access from Munich. Identical Mayr-method medical depth at both.

How long does the transfer from Hamburg take?

Hamburg to Sylt by train (Sylt-Shuttle Plus) is 4 hours including the car-train crossing of the Hindenburgdamm; private transfer via Niebüll car-train is 4.5–5 hours. The seasonal Sylt airport (GWT) cuts this to a 45-minute connection from Hamburg.
