V&A Waterfront's flagship five-star — Table Mountain views from every room, Nobu and Reuben Riffel kitchens, and two private islands within the property connected by footbridge.

What works

  • Every room faces Table Mountain
  • Nobu Cape Town + Reuben's on-property
  • Two private islands within the property perimeter

Watch-outs

  • V&A Waterfront busy with day-trippers
  • No direct beachfront — sea is the working harbour

One&Only Cape Town sits on Dock Road in the V&A Waterfront — the city's largest tourist precinct, with the Two Oceans Aquarium, the V&A Food Market, and the Zeitz MOCAA contemporary art museum (housed inside The Silo Hotel) all within a five-minute walk. Cape Town International Airport is 25 minutes by taxi off-peak; the city centre is ten minutes; Camps Bay and the Atlantic Seaboard beach strip is 25 minutes by car. The hotel occupies a 5-hectare walled compound that includes two artificial islands connected by footbridge to the main building — the islands house the spa, the family suites, and a series of private dining pavilions.

The defining design feature is the Table Mountain sightline — every one of the 131 rooms faces the mountain across the V&A marina, with the top three floors (Marina Rise category and above) providing the unobstructed view that the lower floors partially obstruct. The interior palette by SOI architects uses Cape colonial cream and dark Stinkwood; the Marina category at 55 square metres reads larger than most peers' suites. The two-island layout means the spa is accessed via a wooden footbridge, which works as a defacto property-separator between the hotel-side common areas and the wellness/family-suite environment.

Reuben's at One&Only is Reuben Riffel's flagship Cape Town restaurant — modern South African cuisine drawing on the Cape Winelands and the local fish boats, with a tasting menu (~R 1,800 pp) that is the property's signature dining experience. Nobu Cape Town is the strongest Nobu kitchen in Africa and the only one running the full Tokyo-spec omakase programme; the chef's tasting at ~R 3,200 pp is the booking to chase. The ESPA spa on the larger of the two islands runs the standard ESPA treatment menu plus a Cape Floral-derived signature programme using local fynbos extracts.

One&Only is owned by Kerzner International (also Atlantis, Mazagan, Reethi Rah); no chain points programme. Bookings via Virtuoso or Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts add daily breakfast for two (already included on every direct booking), a $100 property credit, and a confirmable 16:00 late check-out at the same nightly cost. The structural low season is the Cape Town winter June through August — rates drop to $550 with daily weather between 12°C and 18°C and frequent rain. The cool-and-clear shoulder window (May and September to October) is the booking sweet spot for travellers willing to layer for evening temperatures.

Frequently asked

One&Only Cape Town or The Silo?

The Silo for the smaller property feel and the original Heatherwick Studio architecture. One&Only for the larger room footprints and the Nobu kitchen. The Silo runs roughly 50% higher at comparable categories.

Best room category for first stay?

Marina Rise Room on the top three floors — the elevated stack gives the unobstructed Table Mountain sightline that the lower Marina View categories partially miss.

Is Nobu Cape Town worth booking outside hotel stay?

Yes — Nobu Cape Town is the strongest Nobu kitchen in Africa and the only one running the full Tokyo-spec omakase ($180pp). Two seatings nightly, books out three weeks ahead at weekends.
