The Chao Phraya riverfront's quietest five-star — every room has a private terrace and a river view, and the property runs at a near 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio.
What works
- Every room has a private terrace and river view
- Côte holds two Michelin stars on-site
- Lowest staff turnover of any Bangkok five-star
Watch-outs
- 20-minute taxi to Sukhumvit by road (10 by river)
- No direct BTS Skytrain at the door
Capella Bangkok opened in October 2020 on a 5-rai riverfront plot in the Charoenkrung Creative District — the first new-build five-star on the Chao Phraya in more than a decade and the only Bangkok hotel where every guest room and suite faces the river without an exception. The site sits between the Mandarin Oriental and the Peninsula on the same river bend, with the Sirocco-rooftop tower at lebua and the Saphan Taksin BTS interchange both within a 10-minute taxi or hotel-tuk-tuk ride. The Charoenkrung neighbourhood is the original creative cluster — Warehouse 30, the TCDC Creative Centre, and the Sunday-market O.P. Place antique mall sit within a 12-minute walk along the riverfront promenade.
The architecture is by Hirsch Bedner Associates with landscape by Bensley — the latter is the more visible influence, with the 5,000-square-metre garden running the full length of the river frontage and the cascading lap pool that drops three terraces toward the water. Rooms start at 75 square metres for the Verandah Studio, the largest entry-category in any Bangkok hotel and the only category with a freestanding tub set on the private terrace; the Verandah Suite adds a separate living room (130 square metres) for the upgrade Bangkok regulars do on stays of four nights or more. Every category includes the same butler service inherited from the Capella Singapore operating template.
Côte by Mauro Colagreco is the chef's first Asian restaurant — a one-Michelin-star Mediterranean room on the riverside terrace that has held the star every year since the 2021 awards, and the only seafood-led tasting menu in Bangkok served in an open-air pavilion. Phra Nakhon is the Thai restaurant that received Michelin recognition in 2023 — a 28-seat room of regional Thai dishes, less famous than Le Du or Sorn and easier to book on under-30-day windows. Stella is the all-day European brasserie and the breakfast venue; the only meal not bundled into Capella's preferred-partner rate is dinner.
Capella sits inside the Pegasus by Capella loyalty programme, but the more useful booking lever is the Capella Curates rate available through Virtuoso, FHR, and STARS — same nightly cost, plus daily breakfast, a $100 property credit, and a confirmable late check-out to 16:00. The hotel's structural low season is May through September (south-west monsoon, daily afternoon rain) when the Verandah Studio drops to roughly $580; high season runs November through February with the Christmas-to-New-Year week priced 40 percent above November. Request a south-facing room on the upper floors for the Wat Arun sightline at sunset.

Frequently asked
Is the river-view real or angled on the entry-category room?
Real and direct — every Verandah Studio faces the Chao Phraya with a 12 sqm private terrace. There are no city-view or courtyard categories at Capella Bangkok.
Worth booking the suite for two adults?
No on a stay under 4 nights. The 75 sqm Verandah Studio already includes a separate dressing area and a freestanding tub on the terrace; the suite adds a living room you'll mostly photograph.
How do I get to Sukhumvit for dinner?
Hotel river shuttle to Saphan Taksin (10 minutes), then BTS Skytrain to Asok or Phrom Phong (12 minutes). Total: 25 minutes vs. 45–60 by car in evening traffic.
