Aman's Grand Canal palazzo with original Tiepolo frescoes and two private gardens — the only 24-room palazzo conversion on the canal and the brand's smallest European property.

What works

  • Original Tiepolo frescoes in three public rooms
  • Two private gardens — unique on the Grand Canal
  • 24-room scale means total privacy

Watch-outs

  • No on-property pool
  • Rate floor higher than any Venice peer

Aman Venice occupies the Palazzo Papadopoli on a Grand Canal bend in the San Polo sestiere — the address sits between the Rialto Bridge (six minutes north on foot) and the Frari church (four minutes south). San Silvestro vaporetto stop is three minutes from the water gate; Santa Lucia rail station is twelve minutes via the Aman private launch. Marco Polo Airport routes through the same launch (30 minutes, roughly $250 each way, included on direct bookings of three nights or more) or the cheaper Alilaguna shared service from the airport pontoon (75 minutes, €15 per person). The palazzo entrance is the canal-side water gate; the Calle Tiepolo street entrance is secondary.

The Palazzo Papadopoli dates from 1550 and retains original ceiling frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo in the Tiepolo Lounge and the Alcova Tiepolo Suite — the latter is the only Venice hotel room with an original Tiepolo fresco visible from the bed. The Jean-Michel Gathy interior, completed for the 2013 Aman opening, restored the piano nobile rather than reinterpreted it; original Murano chandeliers, Venetian stucco, and the seventeenth-century library survive intact. Two private gardens — one rear courtyard, one canal-facing — are the only gardens of any size on the Grand Canal and the property's clearest differentiator versus every Venice peer.

The 24 rooms across two piano nobile floors give a guest-per-staff ratio higher than any other Aman urban property. The Stanze Garden Rooms face the rear courtyard at 45 square metres; Canal Rooms face the Grand Canal at 50 to 60 square metres; the four signature suites (Alcova Tiepolo, Sansovino, Stampalia, Papadopoli) occupy 110 to 175 square metres each across the second piano nobile. Service runs to the Aman standard — named butler from arrival, dine-on-demand from breakfast through dinner in any public or private room, daily private-launch transfers to the Lido and Burano included on stays of four nights or more.

Arva is the all-day Italian restaurant on the canal-facing piano nobile and the breakfast venue (breakfast is included on every direct booking — rare for Aman). The wine programme runs the only proper Venetian-vintage cellar in the city alongside a strong Brunello and Barolo line. Yu Spa in the basement is the property's weakness — a small two-room treatment suite, no pool, no hammam. The structural low season is the first three weeks of January and early November before acqua alta peaks; Biennale years (every odd year, May to November) and Carnival (February) drive 35 percent rate premiums and a 30-day cancellation window.

Frequently asked

Aman Venice or Cipriani for a first Venice stay?

Cipriani for the Giudecca pool, the larger property feel, and the Belmond launch service. Aman for the Grand Canal frescoes and the 24-room privacy. Different propositions at similar rate; pick on whether you want resort feel or palazzo.

Is the canal-side entrance the main arrival?

Yes — Aman's private launch from Marco Polo Airport docks directly at the Palazzo Papadopoli water gate, which is the proper arrival experience. The street entrance on Calle Tiepolo is for foot traffic only.

Best room for first stay?

Canal Room on the second piano nobile for the Grand Canal sightline; the Alcova Tiepolo Suite is the milestone-stay upgrade with the original ceiling fresco.
