The 2017-refresh Suites on the Singapore Airlines A380 — a separate full-length bed and 35-sq-ft cabin with sliding door, available on 12 A380 frames flying six routes. The defining First-class hardware in commercial aviation.

Singapore Airlines launched the current Suites product on the A380 in December 2017, replacing the 2007 first-generation Suites and reducing the cabin from 12 suites to six per frame across the front of the upper deck. The 2017 product is the genre reference for commercial First Class hardware — a 35-square-foot enclosed suite with a sliding door, a separate full-length bed that the crew prepares during the in-flight rest (rather than a seat that converts), and a Poltrona Frau swivelling armchair that remains independent of the bed. The centre suites 1A and 1F convert to a single double bed by lowering the partition between them — the only First Class configuration in commercial aviation bookable as a true double.

The product is deployed on 12 of SQ's 19 A380 frames; routes include SIN-LHR (the founding deployment), SIN-JFK (via Frankfurt on selected days), SIN-HKG (the shortest five-hour Suites flight and easiest award redemption), SIN-SYD, and SIN-FRA. The onboard catering programme is the strongest in First Class — Krug Grande Cuvée as the standard pour, Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve as the rotation, and the Book the Cook menu allows pre-order of signature dishes including the Lobster Thermidor and the satay platter (originally an SQ Suites exclusive that has migrated down the cabins). KrisFlyer Saver Suites space is the scarcest premium-cabin award in the world — typical strategy is to book 355 days ahead the moment the schedule loads, or use Alaska Mileage Plan or Air Canada Aeroplan partner awards which sometimes hold space SQ does not release to its own programme.

Who it's for

Right fit

  • First-class travellers prioritising hardware and bed quality
  • Couples booking the centre double-bed configuration

Look elsewhere if

  • Travellers wanting straightforward award availability — Suites Saver space is the scarcest in the genre
  • Routes outside the 12-frame A380 deployment

Frequently asked

Singapore Airlines Suites or Emirates A380 First?

SQ Suites for the hardware (separate bed, sliding door, true private cabin) and the Krug pour; Emirates for the onboard shower, the lounge-and-bar at the back of the upper deck, and the easier Skywards redemption availability. SQ wins on the seat itself, Emirates on the whole-flight experience.

Can I book the double-bed configuration?

Yes — suites 1A and 1F on the front row convert into a single double bed by lowering the partition between them. Both suites must be booked together (one passenger, two seats, or two passengers in the same booking). The conversion happens during turndown service.

Award sweet spot

KrisFlyer 86,000 miles SIN-HKG one-way (5h 15m) — best short Asian Suites award. KrisFlyer 132,000 miles SIN-LHR is the genre's headline long-haul.

What works

  • Separate full-length bed and chair — no seat conversion required
  • Double-bed configuration in centre suites 1A/1F is unique to SQ Suites
  • Krug NV champagne and Charles Heidsieck onboard; Dom Pérignon by request

Watch-outs

  • KrisFlyer Saver Suites awards are genuinely scarce — book 355 days ahead or use Alaska/Air Canada partner award
  • Only 12 A380 frames carry the 2017 product — equipment swaps can downgrade you to the older Suites at short notice
